Episode 3: No Man's Land

Damn! This comic was just a few hours late. My commitment to posting one entry per month is already slipping. I am truly the worst kind of bastard....

...Happy Labor Day! This month's entry is something that I have had sitting around for at least 3 years. When I feel a strong attraction to someone I become a nervous gibbering wreck and I wanted to write something that illustrated those feelings. I hadn't originally intended for the comic to contain a WWI scene. Honestly, I had completely forgotten about this piece, but I was flipping through one of my old journals and found it among the feverishly scrawled notes and doodles. It is certainly very “emo”, but I like to think that it has a youthful tone which actually captures my feelings quite well. Once I had the idea of playing out the romantic drama with a WWI scene it all flowed very quickly.

I tried to loosen up a bit this month, and went back to inking with my Winsor & Newton brush. Despite a few wonky panels, I'm really quite happy with this. I've been studying a lot of Darwyn Cooke, Bruce Timm, and Chris Samnee. My influences may be resting awkwardly on the surface, but I really feel like I'm beginning to develop a style that I am comfortable with. I used my Pentel Auquah pen for the ink washes. Still getting used to this process, but I really like the look and feel of ink washes. I would have liked to add more value in photoshop, but this was a very busy month, and I only had a couple dyas to get this written, draw, and posted.

That's all for now, enjoy the long weekend, and please share my comic with your friends!

Episode 2: Pizza & Sex.

Well, if you have ever wondered what a Pizza’s genitals would look like….Now you know.

Welcome to the 2nd installment of my silly little webcomic, I knew that I wanted to do something silly this month, but I didn’t really have any ideas. Inspiration struck when I received a text message from a friend who was flaking on our social plans because his lady friend was “going to bring over a pizza and fuck”. The wording was instantly funny to me, so I jotted down some notes for this very comic.

The whole thing came together pretty quickly except the lettering. Until this month I had never used Adobe Illustrator. I knew that I would have to teach myself how to letter, and that the process probably wouldn’t be a lot of fun…. So I stalled. I put off the lettering until the last day of July because I’m a silly fool. Stay tuned for next month’s comic, It’s guaranteed to change your life*

Episode 1: The Creationist.

The Creationist  - 06/13/2014

The Creationist  - 06/13/2014

Let's get this party started.

I've been posting a lot of shiny slick sketches over the past year or so, but I haven't shared any sequential art. Sequential Art is what interests me the most, but I am very insecure about my comic pages. I decided that it was time to start a webcomic as a means of practicing my craft and exercising some demons. Every installment will be a self-contained story that will be strange and at least a little bit autobiographical. Some entries will be funny, some sad, and some will be downright crappy.

Honestly, this project is more for me than anyone else. The focus here is practice and working within a schedule. My goal is to post AT LEAST 1 entry per month, accompanied by a small blog post(like this one!). I know one entry per month is not a lot, but I have school, other projects, a podcast, and a (somewhat)social life to tend to.

This first entry is a simple declaration of the comic itself. I felt that the most appropriate way to launch a comic was to create my comic universe. So here it is, you are all witnesses to the beginning of the universe, you are sooooo cool.
